To make your own lightweight chair you can carry with you.

First buy some cheap 1mx2m Parachute offcut. Then measure so it is roughly floor to your neck and cut.

Fold edge over twice at top and bottom edge, so it is triple layer fabric. Place pins in every couple of inches.

Place fabric in sewing machine, and remove pins as you sew. [If your sewing sucks, like mine, a local dressmaker will probably do the whole thing for you for 3 or 4 quid]

Sew both top and bottom edge and remove pins

Then fold over and pin and sew again, making a loop one at one endof 12cms [bottom] and a loop at the other end of 2" [top]

Weighs just 60g

You should now have a rectangular piece of material like this

IMG_20121108_134223_112.jpgIMG_20121108_130602_769.jpg

Cut three dead standing branches just above your head height. Wrist Thick. [Preferably straight ] Form a tripod, lashed at the top.

IMG_20121108_130658_352.jpg

Put a length of cord through top loop, and a branch through bottom loop.

That looks mint  I've seen a video of the same setup but using their hammock. Would I use my hammock.....noooo, would I make and use this.....he'll yeah. Thank you :thumbup::thumbup:

There's a great video on youtube - I'll try to post it later - of a guy using this as the basis for an insulated "survival" seat, using an additional pole poking out paralleishl to ground from the tripod, and surrounding it back, sides and front with three survival sheets stuck together with tape. Put a small fire in front of entry and see the temp rise dramatically!

Looks great and i have tried a "rougher" version but the problem i had was the horizontal pole always dug into the back of your legs :(
Maybe i did it wrong but. Will be watching along :)

am picking up a new (to me) sewing machine on tuesday and i happen to have 10m of 1.1 ripstop here.....

Sounds good Fish mate, pictures would be nice.
I must try this myself as I am awash with rip stop chute material at Hugo towers I have over a hundred metres of the stuff left.

They are good , I made one myself about a month ago, not got round to using it yet... hopefully when we are out next weekend
