Wayland, did I remember correctly that you shipped your pulka in a ski bag or something when you flew to Norway?

Oooo! very nice :notworthy whats the weight like ?

It should weigh in at just over 3 kilo including a cordura bag/cover, rigging and attachment for the pullbar. I am going to use a similar red cover/bag as in the picture and will have a zipper along the length of it for easy access.

Having just had a nice conversation with both Towns, I think purely from a scenery point of view Alvsbyn is the nicest of the two places, where Bodin is more a metropolitan city/town.

Alvsbyn is more rural, and if we do have to spend time waiting for the connection, certainly more to see and do. The local station is sending me a copy of the time-table for the Alsbyn >Jokkmokk service for the December - March services, and will post as soon as I have them :)

local pages for both

Alvsbyn

Boden

If people can PM with any preferences It will save cluttering up the thread

Sorry, only just seen this.

Mine was shipped as a "ski bag" because the standard baggage did not allow enough for the length.

The bag I actually used was made from two poly tarp material sacks, end to end and gaffa taped together. Almost no weight but tough enough for airport handling.

Thanks Wayland. My pulka is 120 cm long but I reckon I need to pay for odd size baggage or something like a skibag (which seems to be the cheapest but not all airlines have that). I got a flight bag with the pulka, so I should be good to go.

Has anyone booked flights yet or set their dates in stone?

I'm looking at flying into Gallivare late Jan to coincide with the cheapest flight and my dates are completely flexible, wondering how much time to alot for making it to Jokkmokk.

We are booking this week. Probably flying into Lulea and then taking the coach. We are planning to start at the market unless this proves to be difficult with regards to plane/train schedules.

What cheese are you bringing Pete? :)

I have 2 blocks of something very nice sitting in my fridge just for you, its all ready to send now it won't go off in the post. Do you want me to eat this lot (no hardship at all) and bring an even bigger bit over with me?

I'd suggest though that you might want it before Xmas so you can get over the salt overdose
