Hi guys,

The weather looks nice and I thought it would be good to go to Dartmoor (always wanted to go there). I've heard many good things about this park.
If anyone knows this area particularly well and would recommand specific places, for wild camping / fires (i have a gas stove otherwise) I'm up for it.

If anyone wants to join me (The London Bridge "The George" gang ;) ) let me know !

Cheers mates.

Hi Bruce.

Know it like the back of my hand and, work permitting, I could easily be persuaded to come along and show you a few of the sights (or even sites).

I'll watch this thead and see how it develops.

P.S. All the good things you've heard don't do it justice.

Now I thought you were gainfully employed once again and a slave to your masters?

Itchy knows some lovely sights and would make a great guide. Open fires as a rule are not allowed within the park and it's just as well as Itchy is rubbish at keeping a fire going!
:camping:

(Only kidding Green Man!)

Wish I could skive off and head South but the kids are off and need entertaining.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your feedback. Are Ichneumon and Itchy the same person ?
Maybe I should book a train to Dartmoor or at least the closest city ...which is...hmmm...Exeter ? And then, hitchhike ?

Hi Bruce.

Yeah, they call me lots of names, Ichy (Itchy) and Green Man are two of the kinder ones. :)

It's not true! I don't put the fires out - I leave that to Ivan the Extinguisher!

The best railway station to choose is Newton Abbot. If I find I can make it I can pick you up from there. You could find that the head-count grows in the days leading up so others may be available to give you a lift. If you're going alone and don't have transport you should book to Ivybridge station. The open moor is less than a mile away and in easy walking distance.

Don't worry Steve, he's in safe hands. Me and the Jolly Boys wouldn't dream of letting a 'city boys' out on the moor alone. Apart from the Hound of the Baskervilles (which is fictional) there is the Hairy Hands and the Whist Hounds to consider (Google them). Not to mention the Headless huntsman and Dartmoor piskies. (All very real - I've seen them). :p Then there's Foxtor Mires, the Great Grimpound Mire and Cranmere Pool, I wouldn't want to see anybody innocently wander into them - and disappear without trace. :)

Ivan's got a few issues to deal with at the moment (see his lastest post) so he's temporarily out of the loop. Could be back by the Bank holiday though. Meantime we'll give Bruce a good welcome.

When you gonna get your backside down and sample the delights? Be a pleasure to show you around too.

Blimey ! you go all miserable for a couple of days and this happens ! Put my name on this list , nice one Sticky for not letting one slip through the net , let me know how the pm'ing went and what you have up your sleeve .

Sorry , Hi Bruce , didn't spot this straight away , be great if we can get something organised and as Icky has said Newton Aboot is probably your best bet and we can get someone to pick you up from the station and you are only half an hour or so from all sorts of Dartmoor options .

Right, it appears that some PM's may be getting lost in translation , i have lost a couple that i know i sent , and having spoken to the Green Man he has had similair , so this is more of a highlight to Bruce in case he thinks we are being ignorant , we ain't !
I may even pose the query in the proper place in case it's a BCUK thing .

There seems to be a problem with PMs. Ivan and I have both sent PMs to each other and they have not been received, they also do not appear in the PM record. Our inboxes are not full so there does seem to be an isue. I'll report it elsewhere.

So - Bruce. I did not receive a reply to my last PM sent 19:28 on Friday. So if you have replied to this check your PM's, if the record is not there you'll know what's happened.
