  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Other than being a bit small for you, how do you find it as a cutting tool?
I’ve been tempted to buy one and grind the point round to make a rope/rescue knife.
There's already an Opinel N°6 sold as "My First Opinel" intended for children. It has a rounded tip, but otherwise is the same as a standard N°6.

The Opinel #8 Outdoor was originally produced as merchandising for a French yacht race in blue and red.

Frankly I think it’s a bit of a lash up. It doesn’t need the serrated edge section and I can’t see myself using the shackle spanner in anger.

It cuts very well like it’s conventional cousins. The whistle is thoroughly effective.

The primary reason that I applaud it is that it gave rise to the Opinel #12Explore, the knife that I use all the time for nearly everything in camp.

I actually have one of these, great little knife.
I liked the look of the outdoor due to the non wood handle, colour, whistle and serrated blade. I tend to remove the point of any blade I use as a safety knife.
