Heard about this site on TopGear last night so thought I'd try it out by sticking in some of the cars my folks had when I was a nipper in the 70's & 80's.

How Many Left

I remember my mums B reg Talbot Samba GLS with the accelerator which used to stick sometimes, only 1 left on the road and 3 SORN. They've done well as it was a right shed.

My dad had a Renault Fuego when we moved up to Yorkshire, he got a company car with the new job in 1980, a big fat Rover SDI 3.5L jobby. He had that for about a month and hated it, swapped it again for a metallic mint green mk5 Ford Cortina, nice :)

My old man had an Austin ambassador 1.7hl and thank god there are only four left on the road. He killed his by running into a truck which had air brakes, the ambassador did not :( luckily they're built like tanks and he walked away with just a broken hand! Still a bloody awful car :)

LOL... for us older folks... my very first car was an 1987 ford fiesta... there's only one left on the road from that year

Me too - exactly the same. That actually makes me quite sad. If I still owned it it would still be in fine form!:( No reason why a galvanised body car of that generation should fall apart!

My 1990 MkII Golf GTI, for which I traded it in, is still in my hands and is still in fine form without a spot of rust and sweet as a nut to drive.

Only 4 GTI G60s from 1994 left…!

My first car was a 1984 Mini Mayfair in metallic silver, I bought it when I was sixteen and spent months sanding it down, filling it and spraying it with Halfords tinned paint. About a month before my 17th birthday my folks went away on holiday so I took it out for a spin, I pulled into a car park and went for a fancy handbrake skid in front of some of the older lads, snapped the rear subframe in three places :( Not only did I have to borrow £20 off my big brother to get towed home, another £160 to get it fixed before they came home but my dad's best mate lived over the road and grassed me up when they got back :(
Got it back on the road though, went for my test on my 17th birthday and failed, reapplied the next day and passed a week later. Driving to school (6th form) after passing I hit some standing water and aqua planed a full 360 and stuff it in a ditch :(

I'm a dad so does my '85 Volvo 360GLT count? Only 2 left on the road, and 6 Sorn. I bet none of them are a three door like mine. I only sold it 2 years ago and wish I hadn't:

From what I've read on another forum, I wouldn't get too hung up on the numbers. It's all based on DVLA data, which has been put onto the system by 'somebodies'. Apparently they tend to put in what's written on the v5, which might be different to the common names you search for, or in some cases they're just put in under the manufacturer and 'missing'.
No model codes exist for imported vehicles or models which have not been on general sale in the UK (or are sold in the UK under a different make or model name). In these cases the DVLA operator will either try to find the nearest, sensible, match to the name as written on the V55 form, or will record the vehicle in the ‘model missing’ box. The former is often done when keepers want something to appear on the V5 document for insurance purposes. The nearest match would usually be a shorter, more generic term for the vehicle.

My first was a Ford Fiesta Supersport - it once won first prize at Haynes motor museum for best in XR category, I trashed it - only 17 left.

Fiat 127 - 1050 Comfort - 1 left

Triumph Toledo - weirdly there's still 129 left

Talbot Horizon GL - 2 left

VW Scirocco Scala (I still have this, off the road) - 396 left

Me old Dad sold a Sierra 2.0 litre ar for a 1.5 litre boxer engined Alfa 33. Can't remember the model but think it was a 33 TI which has 4 left or just a plain 33 which has 3. Some models there are none left SORN or registered. I do wonder why? Could it be the fact that alfas are really meant for the warmer mediterraean climates and rust up here. When my Dad had his I went to Athens and they were as common as escorts and fords were over here. In fact it seemed than every 4th car wasn't an alfa 33!!!! Great car with plenty of guts for a smaller engine. Light too in fact I used to have to wash it and the panels and roof were as flimsy as cardboard. once pushed too hard on the roof and had an anxious moment till i managed to pop it back out again. I reckon in NCAP it would have minus 4 stars. In fact if a pedestrian got hit by it the car would probably crumple leaving the pedestrian unharmed!!

I was with him when he took it in for a service. We got a near top of the range sporty cloverleaf model with the big engine and sporty everything. Trouble is they were so light that we went over a bump that launched the whole car off the road. Landed, bounced sideways then got all four wheels down just in time to go round a 90 degrees bend!! Bloody pleased it handles bloody well otherwise we'd have been in a hedge or another car I reckon.

Swapped that for a sierra saphire 2.0 litre model in white. Great car. Especially driving long jounreys as it was the same model as the unmarked traffic cops drove. Well the sapphire body shape was and it did look pretty similar to the traffic cop car that was used by all constabularies. Strange at first how all drivers slowed and pulled in as we came screaming up to them and... exactly the speed limit officer honest! ;) Well perhaps. Shame they have all sorts of different models now so I doubt you'd get the same response now.
Worst car has to be a kia that my Dad got as a courtesy car from his ALfa dealer. Think of a Vauxhall but the model about 3 versions back!! Bloody awful.

Or the Morris Marina my Dad got my Mum from a car auction. It was a reliable car but rust, ugly shape and poor performance meant I hated it. Oh and it was orange!! The vauxhall cavaliers we had were nice. Large boots too so great for travelling on family hols. Got a lot of stuff in those boots.

Passed my test in my Mum and Dad's first ever brand new car. A D reg (think 1984) Mini Mayfair in metallic golden paint scheme. That car had guts. I learnt to drive in it and passed my test in it. I was and still am 6'5" tall!! They switched to a Fiesta and I learnt that the gear stick does not normally sit behind your left knee!! That and most cars do have elbow room that doesn't consist of the passenger's seat area and the open window. Got my first wheelspin at lights in that. Also crashed it while parents on hols. Got it fixed ofr a tenner so ok apart from receipt left in car. Also got up to 100mph in it!! top speed was supposed to be 97mph but I was going downhill on a motorway (from the start of it too) and had a long runn up before any junction. It was quiet too. Wind assisted as well. Did I say 100mph officer I meant 69mph!! I misread the speedo. ;)

In the woods if possible.
...Need to make my millions first but I'ms working on that (lottery).

At work they used to run a pool for the lottery. Each week, one of the pool members would choose the numbers. Having been a reasonably good student of mathematics, I was never involved.

One week for some reason I've forgotten, they asked me to choose the numbers. They gave me a sheet of paper to write them on.

I wrote down "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7" and handed back the sheet of paper.

Everybody was shocked. They're not going to win! They all said.

"I know," I said, "it's obvious my numbers aren't going to win, but they have the same chance as any other numbers you'll choose."

Even so, they all refused to use my numbers.

Oh -- my dad's Standard 8 isn't on the Website. Closest it got was an Alpha Romeo,
