Now that title may seem a little unusual BUT - there is NOTHING KINKY going on here :D
Our Local Am Dram Society - The Attic Players (as seen by our wonderful leader Tony :)) - is planning to put on a production of the stage version of " 'Allo 'Allo" and as one of the costume team in the group I have been put in charge of getting the uniforms sorted ...
Well as it turns out there are LOADS of Uniforms needed ranging through from German Privates, the normal officers as seen on every episode of the TV series (including Helga) to a visitting General and even 4 versions of Hitler and one (or is it two ) Goering!
Ours is a small, self funded theatrical group with a very limitted budget and at present the cheapest package for renting the gear from a costumier is £500.00 for 2 weeks .... we would need the stuff to rehears with as well so the bill there would be about £1000.00 or about five times the probable profit the production might make....
My plea is - does anyone know of a REALY CHEAP costume hire place
OR
A cheap source of suitable uniforms that I could adapt (mainly dress not combat uniforms) with a little effort
OR
does anyone want to support the arts and, at the same time, clear space in their wardrobe by donating their old German Uniforms to the theatre :)
We will need everthing from hats and helmets to jackets, trousers, riding britches and even swastiker patterned boxers!

Any thoughts, ideas, donations would be gratefuly received!
Any clothing that does not fit the actors would be used to decorate the theatre/front of house staff :)

I will be playing LeClerc ... so costume there is not a problem....

My thanks in advance
John

Cheers for the ideas of re-enactors groups and the MVT - I will be looking into those... though I dont know of any local groups.
all our re-enactors around here seem to be Darrk Ages or ACW :)

Best of luck John. We just finished Peter Pan.

Our am dram group has done 'ello 'ello twice over the years
I played Captian Bertorelli and then just a walk on part in the second one
I think we used basic blue suits customised for the German ones IIRC

Great fun. We gave the audience a French themed meal too of wine, bread, cheese and pate and encouraged them to dress up . Some turned up in striped shirts, berets and strings of onions. We had the hall looking like a cafe so the action moved through the tables sometimes too.

Back to uniforms I wonder if SoF would let you borrow them if you promised to return undamaged - they might charge you a bit but not as much as a fancy dress hire place...

I'm sure all our uniforms have been customised for other productions but I'll ask just in case.

When's the production?

Mark

OK I've pruned the thread somewhat to keep it on track, initial comments where light hearted and seemed to get way out of hand quickly. Lets keep it on topic.

Cheers guys!
Buckshot - the production is not until August so lots of time yet (but you know how time evaporates in a theatre....) and we have a Spring "End of the pier show" first - Edwardian theme!
I love the idea of the cafe auditorium :) unfortunately that would not work with us as we have fixed raked seats....
Cap'n - doesn't the gay leiutenant drive a tank.... :) ideal if you can swing summat there!
I will try SoF and Haselmere as well :)
Many thanks guys :)
