I was thinking i might add some colour to a few, although i much prefer to let time and the weather take their toll
I see the merit in either approach. That said, I’ve never seen any of your work done in colors. It might be interesting.
 
I vote to leave them raw to weather. I did that with 8 wood carvings.
Put them on fence posts to see every day. I like the weathering.
A few did get some paint, all gone now. So be it.

If they weather Grey they will look like the old traditional Jul tomtar and vättar.
If you colour their hat Red, they look like the ones Jenny Lind painted.
