I can`t open that link because any sites containing the word "weapons" are blocked here at work.

I can imagine what it says though, it`s taken long enough for somebody to catch on don`t you think. Does this mean a semi skilled knife maker is now knocking out dodgy copies or are they being mass produced in China ??

I`ll have to wait until I get home I suppose.

Very interesting, I have seen Woodlore's posted on this site with the fullstop missing in the 'A. Wood' . Looks like there are quite a few fakes floating about.

I'm constructing mine at the moment! I decided to have a go at making the Woodlore shape a few years ago and it ended up at the bottom of the toolbox and I found it the other night. It is coming from an old hacksaw blade, the machine powered ones, so it is plenty tough and already hardened. As you can imagine, cutting the shape had to be done with a grinding wheel or cutting disc, all I had to hand was a dremel! It's took quite a while.

I have started on the bevels, I am going for a convex grind, and it is tough going. I've tried diamond files and it is slow work. Emery is leaving a lovely finish but I still haven't got the edge to razor. I had to put it on the strop to see what the end result may look like and it is mirror like. More work till I get to that stage though!

If anybody wants to have a go at this, I suggest you get a normal bit of steel and get it heat treated afterwards! I did it this way as I don't have the facility to HT a blade and wanted to see what I could do with a pre hardened piece of steel. It's been hard work. The steel is mega hard, probably off the Rockwell scale! The downside to this is that it is brittle as hell, so no battoning with this one! Not sure how I'm gonna put holes through the tang for the scales to be pinned on!

Smamel this is actually not just a clone but a fake even down to the makers mark but it was a fault on that that led to the fakes discovery.

Although I find any kind of faking or cheating dispicable, I cannot help but smile when I think of the vast prices people will pay for "original" RM/AW knives, which has lead to fakes being made, which means some people are TOTALLY wasting their cash...
Rather than spend a fortune on a "brand" (which may or may not be a fake) I think I would get a knife custom made from a reputable maker -
But then I am not into logos, dont have the cash to even be tempted to speculate, and have more than enough knives already!
I feel sorry for those who do get ripped off though - as I would for any one who gets ripped of in any way.

BTW - is the Mona Lisa genuine or fake? I understand that there is some debate on this as well!

I know, I've been following the thread. Serial numbers and changing an aspec of the design each year would seem the only way to solve the problem, but this would create problems for people trying to buy. The only way ahead is to put your name on the waiting list if you really want one.

I dont know how they can stop it. Mabie rays signiture on a certificaterelating to a serial numbered knife. The problem here is though what is tho stop them saying they lost the certificate. Its certainly not a simple thing to stop or dior and such would have done it a long time ago.

Cant say I am surprised , At the amounts of money they were changing hands for it was bound to happen . Disappointing all the same .
Unless they start making rip off Frosts clippers I wont lose any sleep over it

Copying a signature and making a fake certificate would also be quite simple. I've seen a birth certificate for a 10 ton hydraulic jack done very easily whilst I was in the Forces. Not having the Cert would have meant writing off as scrap a perfectly serviceable trolley jack, se one was "found" in the out tray of the printer! Our SQMS was a dab hand at copying signatures!

Flip side of the same coin as the big prices they command.
People see the money they go for and figure its worth copying.

One wonders if they cut as well and if so does it matter to the user?

I've seen perfectly servicable jack's 'lose' there birth certificates, only to be liberated and re-born in peoples garages!:D

But on the subject of RM knives, could they have Ray Mears and Alan Wood's DNA signature on the certificate or in a phail attached to the knife so all it would take is a DNA test to prove or disprove authenticity!;) Well, worked for Judge Dredd, or am i not taking this seriously enough?

I haven't checked yet but are there any "evidencial" ( is that a real word?) photo's of the fakes yet?

ooh - it's like an episode of Columbo...
i have a couple of ideas as to what may have happened, but don't want to drag this thread through the same bramble bush by making private thoughts public. it does seem unlikely that someone with so many posts and rep points would fabricate such a scenario, but based on what little i know, those photos do look like the clone tool has been at work, and 'i don't have time to take photos' seems a little strange given that you can take a photo and have it posted in about a minute.
anyhoo, don't want to say anymore:)
