Last weekend i attended a woodland ways bushcraft weekend that my wife had got me for christmas.
It was in oxford so i set of nice and early so i wouldnot be late , on arival it was heavily raining and did so for most of the day, as one after each other they all turned up looking a little worried about the weather.
6.30 came and we were all greeted by Jason ingamels , martin and apprentace andy, were they all led us to camp.
After a 20 min hike we arrived at camp were Dan the other apprentice was waiting for us with the kettle on.
firstly after our introductions we had a talk on using knifes saftley then all was handed a knife and folding saw, then we was shown how to assemble our basha that we would be sleeping under that night
then after another brew we was shown how to breast a pidgion that we would be having for dinner that night
That was cooked up with beansprouts , veg and rice , everyone was supprised how good the quality of duch oven cooking was
then after washing up the instructers left us all to get to know one and other as our comunias area was under a parachute with a fire and kettle always on the go
After a cracking nights sleep we dad porage for breackfast and whent for our sit time were we all picked a spot alone in the woods and just sat there for half a hour watching the wild life, it was very relaxing and peicefull
Then after a brew we started on our shelter building that we would be spending our seconed night sleeping in, we all got stuck in and everyone was trying to make the best shelter(mine was the best ofcorse lol)
then lunch, we learned how to fillet a trout
And cooked it over the fire
We then had a forage in the woods learning about edable plants etc... stumbling across all sorts of tasty greens whilst spoting deer and squirels, very interesting.
Then we learned how to skin and prep rabbit that we had for tea in a stew ,cooked in dutch ovens
after a cracking nights sleep we all got up and made damper bread and had boiled eggs with it
Then we had a talk and demo on knifes and sharpening them etc.. a fire lighting demo bow and drill (that i was succesfull at lol)
Then we had a talk on navigation and how to find yourway without a compas etc....
Then on a snare and trapping demo
Before i knew it it was time for us to leave, i myself was gutted,
we hiked back out to the MAD MAD world.
I had a amazing btime furthered my bushcraft skills a great deal and made some new freinds. I would like to thank all the gang and Jason at woodland ways for a cracking weekend and see you on the foraging course that i keep hinting my wife to get me next.
