Thing is though, I only use the metal as the clean, and cleanable, surface that I lay meat upon to cut it up. I don't try, indeed I try hard not to, cut into the metal. I cut the meat.
You don't cut up the serving dish when you carve a chicken, why should you cut hard enough to cut into metal ?
Control, be aware, think about what you're doing.....and kitchen scissors are good things.

It's like all those folks who won't use a grater or a mandolin because they carve up their fingers.....don't do that, grate/slice the food, not yourself !
Agree on the glass, for I have been there but even with using bamboo I am caused to sharpen my kitchen knives from time to time of which is what I expect to do with knives.

  • Retrieve boards from a fallen sycamore using woodcraft tools and skills.
  • Make sure Sycamore isn’t a landmark tree located in a gap or summit.
  • Ask owner for permission to cut board from sycamore.
  • Select a sycamore because of anti bacterial properties and doesn’t taint food.

If you cannot do any of the above or figure out which order to do the above then don’t bother, you’ve failed at bushcraft. :D Go buy a cutting board from TK Maxx or Temu instead…

…My cheap plastic TK Maxx one can be fired off in the dishwasher which by itself trumps every single advantage of a wooden provides. Massive bushcraft failure I know but I’m a lazy git when it comes to cleaning up.
