It looked like oak to me, and the pegs mean stop cutting when you see the little blue dots

Great vid, many techniques demonstrated there. Would the wood not have been a Spruce?

It can't be spruce from the pleated/grooved bark. Spruce is conifer flaky and many knots,
like the three in my front yard. Head line says oak, I can believe that.

It moved in the water nice, such skill and one hell of a work shop he has, I'm not sure about it being oak the shavings looked so pale and the way they curled ?
