Hi, well done, but I would choose some green wood instead, this looks like dead for a long time, making details is very very hard as the structure is falling apart easily. Hope this helps :)

Yeah it was crumbling a wee bit making it pretty difficult to do any sort of details...will head out and find some greener stuff tomorrow and see how i get on. Just pleased it looks something resembling a face at the moment haha so will see how i get on with a nicer bit wood :D

hi Frampi, :)

thanks for posting your work up, good effort for a first attempt. yes it could be improved with more definition, and that will happen anyway the more you practice.

Milius2 was right in saying the wood was past its best for carving you will see a big difference in your work with fresh green wood. you dont mention what you carved with? that too will have an impact on the end result, lots of people set out with nothing more than the knife on their belt or a penknife and some soon get disheartened, hats off to them blinkin hard work!.

eventually as or if you continue you may find more specialised tools will make the task easier. if this is for you, keep whittling away, show us your stuff and enjoy it!. remember, your best work is in the next branch. :D

Cool I'm just carving my first one too and it's so much harder than it looks isn't it, I experimented with some different woods to see what would carve easiest but all mine were dry sticks in my garage and did not seem to carve easy, I got the cheap kit off eBay and I don't think they are sharp enough! But anyway good work :)
