A bit of a first for me, this one.
Although I've seen a great many common lizards, and know how they can vary in colouration, this is the first time I've seen one with blue on it - that patch just behind the 'ears'. There also appears to be a bluish tint to the flanks and rear legs.
I've never seen that before on a common lizard.

In this photo of a Small Skipper (taken Wednesday) you can see the orange tips to the antenna.

Are you sure that's not an Essex Skipper (Thymelicus lineola)?

Erm...no, I'm not to be honest.
I naturally thought it was a small skipper.
But I've just done a Google and you're right - orange tip = small skipper, black tip = essex skipper.
I'll have to amend the file name on my drive...

It's that time of the year, when maternity wards the length and breadth of the country welcome lots of newborns.
