This is THE fire piston; with some quality manufacturer and unique feature of screw relief valve in handle, which can be used to back off, insert plunger, and then re-tighten, thus holding it in place by vacuum. Allows it to be carried with the incliuded neck cord.

Could you explain what it is and what it does for those of us that don’t know, but may be interested?

They produce an ember in char cloth which you can blow up into a flame with the right tinder.
It works simply on compression. You give a smart push on the piston and the air temperature in the chamber goes up to 300+C and the char cloth glows.

You can get Pyrex demonstration versions so that you can see the flash as you push down the piston.

It’s how diesel engines work without spark plugs.
