While doing a bit of tidying in the back yard, I came across the Meths burner from my Swedish cooker set. As I have another smaller one which also fits in my volcano stove and had been using that in both sets, I had not noticed it missing. It was found in a tupperware style container that I used to store it in but the lid was missing and the whole thing was full of water and looked like it ad been for quite some time.
So I emptied it, shook it and emptied again. Just on the off chance and with nothing to lose, I put some meths in and lit it. It did take a good while before it “bloomed” but it did work fine in the end. I do think that had this been a more serious scenerio, (camp flooded, kit washed away, pitch rained out while off site, or some such) all it would have cost me was a “coffee cup”'s worth of meths.
If kit is this bomb proof why take the time to look after it?
This thread is raised very tongue in cheek and in no way to start a flame war.
I love having a wood fire and will continue to have them but I have stopped wishing for any other stove. It works and it will always work.
