Why am I so rubbish at sharpening a knife?

Have you tried a spyderco sharpmaker? I got one a month or so back, and it's incredible.

I haven't used one of those; I'll mug up on them.

What has help me move from utter lummox to lesser lummox has been using a jewellers loop (AKA 8x magnifying glass)

PS Sharpmaker's are awesome, I'd order one from the states as they're a bit spendy here in old blighty
