Who would you invite?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Bill Bryson - the most huggable-looking man in the UK
Walter Matthau - Oscar Madison
Aaron Sorkin - wrote the West Wing among other things
Matt Groening - wrote The Simpsons and Futurama

Basically American men who write funny things or star
in them.

I'd probably think of completely different people tomorrow :-)

Ooh I hadn't found that, thanks :-)

I'm still smarting because I was too late getting at ticket to hear him last week
at Foyle's bookshop in London. Despite the fact that I go past the :censored: shop
every day on the bus I failed to notice the reasonably sized poster advertising
his talk. And it's not like I don't spend a reasonable part of my online time
looking for talks to go to

Ah well, next time.

I'd probably think of completely different people tomorrow :-)

I know what you mean.

I started this yesterday with Clarkson, Mears, Michael Moore and Robert K-S, but today my thoughts are more along the lines of:

Bill Bailey
Derren Brown
Keely Hazell
Chewbacca (he'd just stand there going ''rrrraaarraaggghhhrr'' and tearing peoples arms off, which may offer some entertainment if the conversation gets boring)

God knows who I'd choose tomorrow, but I've always thought the Mr. Soft guy from the old mint adverts might be good fun.

I think I would like Winston Churchill and JRR Tolkein, but then again I'm not sure I would like to meet them in case my image of them was ruined.

This was the case with Wainwright - having grown up with his beautiful books of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales I thought that this was someone I would like to meet. Yet when I saw him on television, I really did not like him at all and I wish that I still had the idyllic image of him that I had gained from the books.

I have always wanted to meet my grandfather, who went through the trenches in France and came out with only one lung. As a small boy, the idea of having a WW1 war hero as a grandfather was wonderful - yet my grandmother and children walked out on him when my Mum was 17 due to his drinking and violence so all I have is a couple of photos of him.

Based on what I have read of their postings on this site, I would like to meet Toddy and Eric Methven. They both give me the impression of deep wisdom.

So that's 5 people.

Geoff

Scarlett Johansson - she hasn't been taken yet, has she?
Clement Freud for dry humour, as long as he doesn't start talking about politics
RM for wisdom
Hugh Fearnley so he can cook the food!

Actually forget the rest I'll go with just Scarlett...

If the mood is right I might invite

Marilyn Monroe
kathryn zeta jones

Would like to see the two of them get together.

Tried to edit a thread I'd already edited and this new system is driving me nuts. S*orry Jon if this totally makes no sense of your post.
atb,
