Evening all,

I'm starting to try and get to grips with the hobo stove arrangement, and I'm really liking the ideas of it all.

But in the past, climbing and mountaineering, I know that some places just don't have wood enough for a brew!

So, my question is this, what do folk carry as a brew kit back-up fuel!?

I know of
the solid fuel/esbit option and the gel sachets you can get,
but is there anything else out there??

Supermarket firelighter blocks. They are cheap and easy to light but tend to be a bit smokey. Co-Op barbecue lighters come in a press-out sheet like aspirins, which is better than some others because you can cut off one or two for your kit. I find that wrapping the non-individually wrapped ones is tricky as the fumes make holes in aluminium foil and damage certain plastics.

You can also get firelighters which are basically a block of sawdust soaked in paraffin wax with a safety match on the end. However you have to carry the striking strip!
