Hi Guys

I need to buy a few reasonably robust, well priced knives for my forest school. I want something reasonable but not so great that i'll wince if they get lost. I was thinking of getting Mora 511's because i use one myself and they are bright enough to be seen in the grass. They work out around £6.50 each from springfields (cheapest i've found), but i've also noticed the Hultafors Craftmans for £4 each (inc postage)- I know its only £2.50 difference but the pounds do add up...which would you guys go for?

Here's the link for the knives

Hultafors- http://www.building-supplies-online.co.uk/hultafors-craftmans-knife-hvk-28231-p.asp

Mora 511- http://www.springfields.co.uk/brands/mora/mora-511-carbon-steel-knife.html

Cheers

The Hultafors is a superb knife, the bright orange ones take a fair bit of losing too.

Cheers,

Stuart

The bright red Moras have carbon steel blades. So they rust quickly when wet. So if your students can't be expected to keep their blades dry at all times, go for the blue ones. They are stainless. I.e less maintenance for you.

If it was my personal knife I would go for the red though.

The mora has a larger guard - i bought my partner that one when she started doing Forest Schools just for that reason .

Hultafors do a yellow safety knife with a blunt tip that could be suitable. I think I paid under £3 for each of mine

I don't know if there is one near you, but Clas Ohlson sell them at £4.99 each with discounts for purchases of three or more. No home delivery though, I'm sorry to say. http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Morakniv-%C2%AE-Craftline-Q-511-Knife/Pr407804000

Clas ohlson are brilliant but too far away from me, if i could get them cheap enough i would probably go for the Mora but given the difference in price and negligable difference in quality i'm probably going to go for the hultafors- cheapest i've found them is £3.80 inc postage each- has anyone seen them any cheaper?

cheers guys

Okay, recieved the hultafors knives today and they are brilliant. I use a mora 511 most of the time and to be honest the hultafors sits much nicer in the hand, the handle is nicer and the blade is easily as sharp as the Mora out of the box. Definitely recommended, especially for £4 (inc postage)

cheers

Joab
