What to do with 30 11 year olds?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I have 1-2 hours (probably the former by the time they arrive and get organised etc!) to do 'something exciting and memorable' with a group of school kids at a country park I look after.

In the past I have usually been organised and had something like tree planting on the go, which to be fair always goes down well. However this time it is a new site and a new audience that can we wowed by the exciting world of the outdoors! and I'm struggling to think of what to do!

This is quite an important day as we can set up a relationship between the kids and hopefully give the site good place in their memories.

Any thought's? I'd quite like to do something craft related as they can take a skill with them...

You won't be able to do much in an hour & very little one to one tuition.... just letting them wander around & answering their questions would be a good start & you could show them a plant or tree then ask them to go & find others in the park. Bark rubbing is usually popular too & they can take their efforts home with them to show mum & dad.....show them how to light a little fire but let them all have a go.

Duct tape came to mind but that could be seen a cruel. So keep them entertained and give them two cans of Red Bull and a mars bar each before sending them home.

What about a alphabet treasure hunt were they have to find something that begins with the letter a –z could give them some tree identification info so they can make a more informed guess.

Divide them into two teams and play soccer or any other sport. Rest of them can be substitutes. An 11 year old kid is a store house of mischief. Just try to occupy them, as empty mind is a devil's workshop. This is the best way to handle 30 11 year old kids by involving them into some kind of fun activity.

Storytelling round the camp fire...That is, if you are up to it?

Wheres your park? Im in your area.
