nope, its no gouge, its a flat blade like a chisel
I know that Too much kit to carry is after something like that for his wood work...
I've never seen anything quite like that before!
Does it have any makers marks on it? Is there the remains of a Marshalltown stamp on it anywhere?
What is the size of the blade?
Phil.
Looks like a chinese carving chisel.

I can see its use for carving crispy duck.I suspect you need to change take-aways mate - mind you I can see where MSG has pitted the blade

Its a chisel...not a cheese spreader, not a gouge and not a worn down trowel...
I showed it to my retired joiner father and he couldnt say much about it.
His theory was that someone on a site or in a factory had needed a wide chisel in a hurry and gone to the blacksmith who knocked one up.
MARSHALTOWN? do you think it could be a very worn bricktrowel?
