mora companion gets alot of recommendations as a good budget knife but I would like a full tang knife. is there anything full tang available that is low cost but still good?

Everything has shot up in price. I was going to suggest the Real Steel Bushcraft or Condor Bushlore but you'll have to travel back in time a couple of years to get them for under £60

As said, prices have gone up. There was a time you could pick up quite a decent full-tang for £35ish - but there's not a lot below the £70 mark now.

I'd go on the Heinnie site, enter 'full tang' in the search, set the product order to price low-high, then scroll through to see what fits if anything.

I vote for the Mora companion HD (heavy duty) model its a good knife and pretty robust and are very cheap. As FixSwords said you can do plenty with a Mora Companion HD, it comes in orange too :)

What’s it for? Yes a knife is a tool, but it helps to have the right tool for the job. The more info we have, the more we can help.

For example, a Scandi grind blade is great for a lot of bushcraft tasks, but if you’re wanting to do food prep, skin/gralloch critters, butchery in the field etc. there may be a better option out there.

Take a look in the classifieds for a second hand bargain too!

As a side point, at what point does a good knife like mora companion HD become unsuitable? Is such a knife likely to be better than a cheap, potentially poor quality full tang knife?

I know nothing about specifically bushcraft knives. I mostly use cheap mass produced folding knives but:

Take a look at the design of those knives that are described as bushcraft tools. Then look for anything that appeals to you in that shape/weight and that you choose to pay for. The Mora will do everything you want in the early stages.

I use two fixed blade knives. I whittle. It’s crap compared with what you see here but I enjoy it. I use a Morr Ison that cost £3.25 new last year.

I prepare fox pelts using a Stockwell Cohen that cost a pound on that emporium’s remaindered shelf.
(T. E. S tockwell CO hen)

These knives do the work that I require of them on the occasions that I require it. Of course I spend more time than many in sharpening the tool but so what?
(My diamond sharpener cost £4)

Don’t be confused by a huge choice. You will do well with the Mora and it doesn’t cost much. If you find that it limits your work then review in a year or so. You’ll be working from knowledge rather than hype.
Somewhere on this forum I’ve seen a post that suggested that if it weren’t for hype we’d all use Moras. I wouldn’t go that far, there are some specialists here. You may become one of them.

Of course a more expensive knife might simply appeal to you. Now THAT is a different matter. If it is an article of desire and you would enjoy owning it then great, buy it for the pleasure of ownership rather than necessity.

I take pleasure out of my mora. I guess I'm just cheap!

PS that might sound a bit off, I meant pleasure out of owning and using my Mora!

I think a mora will meet my immediate needs while I save up for something of higher quality.

Althought thanks to to links posted i did come across a bps adventurer that looked interesting.

Look at the HK6 in stainless, it's a cracking knife and great value for money.

Haven’t been on since my reply but I was thinking condor bushlore, which has been mentioned they have gone up in price. Have to attempt my favourite more is garberg but the cheaper ones are fine and I used them for many years.
