I have seen a few of these in the hedge the last few days, any ideas what sort it is please? I am no ornithologist....

What is very striking is the exellent camouflage among the snowy branches....
cheers Jonathan :)

Thanks for that. It seems an apt description, there are a group of them, maybe 12 or 15. And they are eating at the few hawthorn berries still on the hedge.
Any way I thought they look intriguing...
cheers Jonathan :)

Look out for Redwing too, they often flock together.

They come over from Scandinavia in the winter for our mild winters.:lmao:

Commonly referred to as the Winter Thrushes in birding circles.

Look out too for Brambling the winter Chaffinch.
Again they're to be found with said Chaffinch over here.

The winter thrushes make a distinctive "Tchuck...Tchuck" call, a much more meaty sound than our resident thrushes make (blackbird, song thrush, mistle thrush).

Back in Scandinavia, fieldfares have an intriguing way of defending their nests. In short, they crap on anything that comes near
