This is a great book to take out on countryside walks to help you discover which of the plants that grow naturally in the British Isles are edible. I have both a large hardback version at home and small pocket sized paperback version which I sometimes carry out with me. Both have lots of colour pictures with photos in the little pocket book and detailed hand drawn pictures in the hardback.

It's fun to wander around our horses meadows searching the hedge rows for free food (some of it needs preparing first but some can be eaten raw). It's surprising how much of our natural countryside is edible at different times of the year including many of the leaves as well as the more expected berries, fruit and other vegetables. There are even sections in the book that include stuff like fungus and things that can be found in or by the sea and other bodies of water.

May I recommend something like this to go with it.
I have no idea whether this one is still in print but it’s enough to turn one carnivore :)
Everything edible seems to have something toxic that looks similar.

Food For Free has well stood the test of time.

Thanks for the heads up. :)

Food For Free has a section on poisonous plants but it is not particularly comprehensive.

Patriot by Alexei Navalny.

A very interesting book, feeling as though it's in three parts: life around his poisoning and recovery, autobiographical section and then his prison(s) diary.

A very very brave and committed man, as are his wife, Yulia, and family, friends and colleagues in their campaigning in Russia.

Found this in my local book store last week, where every book is £1. Started it over the weekend and really enjoying it so far.
