Its crazy. I only realised how bad some drivers/pedestrians are when i started driveing reletively recently.

In one of my first driving lessons i was going along near a T-junction and a white van pulled out and almost hit us. I thought it was my fault and it sent me into a complete panic! That wasn't a very good start to my driving.

More recently i was driving in the area of Cardiff high school along a main road. It was 4 o'clock so there were a few kids about. We were travelling at about 25-30 mph when a young school boy walked out from behind a white van (always white vans!) we were going to fast to stop before we reached him, so i just slammed the brakes on skidding, and cars behind doing the same. My driving instructor did the same, but i managed to get the breaks on before hand as i saw him first. We just avoided skimming him, but if i hadn't breaked when i did, we would have hit him, and at 20 -25 mph it coulda been very bad.

Anyways, best wishes mate. Hope your feeling ok. I know these sort of things can really shake people up.

The thing about nearly all protective gear is that it's designed to withstand sliding onn tarmac, not hitting something. You can get back protectors and a few other things but I just wear a helmet, gloves and some sturdy walking boots. Fortunately I seem to be able to withstand bumps well :-)
Thats because you have a bouldering mat stuffed down your shirt ! :-)

Lithril: riding naked is only illegal if they catch you :nana:

little mole: i'm ok really... no need to see the doc. I bounced off an old land rover years ago and was fine, a clio should pose no problem

Jake: I've been driving for 9 years and riding for 10 and I *STILL* am shocked by what some people think of as acceptable!

Jon: believe it or not, I have tried that but there's just too much wind resistance.

I really would like to see more carbon kevlar involved in protective gear. This would help a lot against impacts as well as the abrasive forces involved in a stack. What gets me is how in some ways mountain bik protective gear is more protective then motor bike stuff. Leather isn't a patch on kevlar and clarino for either abrasive resitance or heat transfer
