Well I finally got around to making myself a new Leuku.

I liked my old one but it never quite felt right in my hand, so I gave this one a bit more belly in the handle.

It's a Stromeng blade which is hard to beat in use, a solid brass ferrule which is traditional, Curly birch which the picture does no justice to and reindeer antler for the pommel.

The buckle is half tanned hide which again is quite traditional in Scandinavia although I have gone for a more European, edge sewn construction.

Very nice traditional look and a handy knife too.

I like scandi sheaths, but find edge sewn ones sit better on the hip, and the knife is easier to withdraw one handed.

It'll look great alongside your other sharps.

I like that a lot, I've got a Leuku in the works but the finished one I've already got works so well I don't know if I should bother!

looks a very nice ,practical user Gary .

I don't do drawer queens, all my tools get used and as you can see the first thing I do is patinate the blades to make them a bit more resistant to rust.

Yes I wanted to make it look part of the set if you know what I mean. Not identical but from the same stable as it were.

Like you I prefer the side sewn sheath in practice but I will probably add a ring so that it can be hung as well.

Very nice Gary, I like the handle shape and your leather work is spot on as usual.

All the best.

For a moment there I thought you were suggesting you needed a completely new set of sharps ;-)

:D It's the picture on my website that shows my selection of users for different jobs. John spotted quite quickly that it's now out of date because it's got my old Leuku on it.

I will replace it at some stage when I get a minute or three and gather the cutlery together again.

Thinking about it I also have a new Fiskars splitting axe but I'm not sure that is as photogenic as the rest.
