Waterproof jacket

I've been looking around for a while for a new lightweight jacket and liked the look of the SAS smocks, mainly cos they are cotton or gabardine or such like and so they are not plasticky like most waterproofs and dont rustle so much.
Problem is I would much prefer a green one rather than DPM as most are stocked. Seen a couple around but just wondering if anyone has any advice on them and what they're like (they seem pretty good in the surplus store). Does anyone know of non-millitary alternates?
Also does anyone know the difference between the SAS smock and the para version?

Oh and forgot to say, in terms of budget I'm looking for something ideally under £100 as my student loan is really meant for food and rent (or beer).

The SAS smock should be ventile (but occasionally gaberdine). The SAS smock is simple with a hood, velcro cuffs, four outer pockets, one on each sleeve (pen & field dressing), one inner pocket. The Para smock used to be heavy cotton modal with knitted cuffs, similar pockets and a bum flap (to stop it riding up as they descended!)

There is a good source of SAS smocks from SASS in Lancaster (www.sasskit.co.uk), they are not cheap, but very well made and they will put in little extras for a small cost, the hood roll tab is PDG, pocket D-rings can be useful too! And they do them in Olive too!!!!

About £125 I seem to remember

I had seen them and they're slightly expensive for my budget but by the sounds of other threads (yes the idiot I am didn't check the million other threads asking the same thing before posting mine-doh!) you definately get what you pay for...

SASS SAS Ventile smock costs £135 + the cost for any extras required.
Mine was £146 inc P&P
The SAS smock and the Para Smock are two completely different jackets.
The SAS Smock is the same as the Arctic Smock less the wired hood.

Just scroll down. I don't know what size you are but items 14 and 15 are olive green and at £50 a throw, an absolute bargain from SASS. They are gaberdine, but don't let that put you off, it's good enough for the military and i've never had any problems with it.
