Water filtration

Just thought it looked kinda neat - effectively providing the same level of purification as the expensive ceramic filter systems - although a couple of plastic buckets aren't really ultra-light gear! However, you can store one bucket inside the other, with lots of space to spare for other kit. Another youtube video showed an even better set-up, along similar lines but with a tap on the "pure-water" bucket so you don't have to open up the system to get water out.

I also saw other systems using sand and gravel home-made filters. The logic of this being that normal bacteria form a "defensive" layer on the top of the sand, which effectively destroy pathogens as they enter. Most of those that make it through this layer die in the lower parts of the sand element of the filter through lack of light/oxygen/food. Bio-filters I think they are called.
