I think the British issue Arctic socks are the best you can get, although im biased as I get them from work: http://www.endicotts.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1702

Once im set-up I wear a pair of Buffalo socks or British Tent Boots, however these don't seem to be that easy to find as Ive only seen them on ebay.

Not teaching you to suck eggs but are you're boots too tight, have you got good insoles in? My plastic mountaineering boots are about a 1/2 size too big which means lots of room to wiggle my toes. Tight boots usually equals cold feet.

il second the arctic socks

There was a guy on Ebay [USA] who sold Woolpower socks, listed as factory rejects. Nothing wrong with them though. You would have to pull the microscope out to see the odd fallen stitch.

Just bought 4 pairs of the Arctic ones, based on the above recc's. :)

i just brought two pairs of these http://www.sockshop.co.uk/products/mens_sockshop_heat_holders_larger_sizes/index.html from my local sports direct for 4.99 a pair.
they are unbelieveably thick and are very comfy and warm. time will tell whether they fall apart with prolonged use, but even so i think they would make a cracking pair to put on for when your in your sleeping bag.
here is a pic of one of the socks, i've turned the sock inside out at the top to show the ridiculous amount pile inside.

I think we have all been out and bought some expensive socks in the past, I know I have, plenty of times.
Sometime this year I was looking in Liddles for there grinder, no luck all sold, then I saw some winter socks, grey in colour with white specks, about £3.00 for two pairs.
I purchased them and left them in a draw, only just tried them today turns out they are lined and very warm when out walking, even when wearing shoes.
At £1.50 a pair I'm well pleased.
