If I can offer some free advice for anyone looking for surplus at these type of shows.
I have no idea if most of you know how surplus dealers buy their stuff, but it is a pretty simple process, and almost all stuff comes from one source called 'field textiles' which is the main MOD disposal site.
As a general rule, the various shows are a good source of revenue for dealers, and so they do not bother to spend ages looking for good quality gear to sell there.
Having worked in this trade now and again I can tell you that most dealers would say they use the shows to sell of 'all their cheap crap to mugs'. So, bearing this in mind, and also bearing in mind the stuff sold at shows is NOT sold at cheap prices (compared to other outlets) ALWAYS haggle the price of goods you are buying!
It is worth remembering that if you bought a pair of combat trousers at £3 for example, the dealer will cover all his costs (30p to £1 for buying the trousers: £1 towards the stall cost, and £1 profit), so when you are paying £10 for them, you not getting something cheap.
As a further example, the last gear I sold to dealers were issue bergans. For brand new ones, still in their packets I was charging about £5 each. So, if the dealers sold them on for £12, they would be making 100% profit (inc stall fee).
So, today's top tip, is that if you think the dealer is asking too much for anything, just say to them 'how much, you will have got a whole container box of these for £50 at field textiles' Then watch their expression change, and the price drop.
