A tip for anyone who owns one of these type vans. On the end of the gear shift cable there is a plastic fitting which push fits onto a rod and when this wears it can pop off when shifting gear and means a new cable is needed.
Well if this happens you can fix it by cutting a square of cotton sheet or similar thin material and putting this over the rod then pushing the fitting back on.
You only need a very thin packing for this to work. I did this in the summer on my van and it's been OK since!
