I fancy taking some film of my trips out as well as the usual stills, what's a decent one to look out for ?

No idea of budget as I'm not up on them at all.

I expect there's quite a bit of bang for your buck now though ?

http://www.rvops.co.uk/muvi-micro-dv-camcorder-2084.html nothing to do with them just saw it on a search

Just got one of these (£15 cheaper on Amazon) I've not had much time to play with it yet - it's really a "extreme ssports" typ thing but for £50 it's a lot of fun. It does have a noise activated setting - thought that might be useful for watching animals, you could leave it by a trail etc.

An example of how good it is (not my video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm6aSEYCOGM

Not really designed for home video though as poor sound and no viewfinder - but a lot of fun!

Shewie I brought one of those sport camra from Maplins the micro sd card can pop out very easy so I found out one day but a bit of electrical tape helps. It can with cycle helmet clip lanyard desk clip and cool velco strips. Not bad but with built in power you are limited.

I think these are the same cameras...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micro-DV-HIDDEN-DVR-Sports-Video-Camera-Spy-cam-MD80_W0QQitemZ330423905166QQ

I got one some time back for about £8 I think. It looks identical to the one discussed here anyway. It works very well, but having no viewfinder or method of instantly reviewing your recordings, is very limiting. It's point and pray video recording. Fine for surveillance, or attaching to a helmet or vehicle, but no good as a handheld video.

It looks the same, but it's been retro engineered and is made of plastic - you pays your money and...

And yes it's a micro SD and the Muvi one comes with a 2Gb card! And on this model it's quite difficult to get it out, I can't imagine it falling out. It's not waterproof, but you can get the sports pack (really) for about £12 which includes a waterproof housing and a load of different mounts.

I've got a small Vivitar camera/movie cam/MP3 player and it works very well so long as there is good light. I got my daughter a cheap Kodak digital camera with video mode and it's a real cracker, takes great movies. Its not that many years ago that I paid £500 for a video camera :(

I've had one of these for a while and found it to be really good. Good quality video and sound, camera attach point on bottom, big memory, plugs direct into PC/Mac and has connector inbuilt. Takes either rechargeable battery pack or 2 x AA. Works really well but possible a bit more expensive than some of the other options.

I got a Kodak Playsport a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with it.

Films in hi definition, can film at 60fps and is waterproof as well. Takes a standard SD card and the batteries are the same as a number of other cameras so can be picked up for less than a fiver if you want spares.

Link to a short video I made with it.

Of course you can't really see the quality with a youtube link but for outdoor use I am really pleased with this. The waterproof aspect saves worry when filming from the canoe or in the rain and the high frame rate option allows you to do slow motion clips without it getting too jumpy.

I still find it incredible that you can get a waterproof HD camcorder for under £130 but that is just me being an old man now :)
