Hi all,
to day I was sick, so I decided to carve my first net needle.
I was inspired by Colhane (my thanks)

ou all know what is a net needle and how you may use, here an example

I used a piece of wood stored for lomg time in my car box, is thick 1 cm and large 8 cm

This kind of wood was horrible for this job, antway no choice.
I started to define a shape usin the awl

than a make holes, again using the awl of course

than it was time for the wood saw

i also worked a bit with the blade

Now the external shape, again the wood saw

than the blade

Conclusion: a lot of fun. The result is "orribile visu", I just may say that is my first one net needle. Hope next time I had a better wood (maybe) and more experience (sure). Vic Farmer is a winner, all worst parts of this job are under my responsibility.
Ciao,
Alfredo

I want that black Farmer! I've not seen one in black before, very nice. Good job on the net needle also.

I am no expert but it looks a bit short & fat to me, so maybe next time make it longer in relation to the width. If you Google some pics of netmaking needles you will see what I mean. I am not having a go, it just that you get a lot more string onto it. Nice bit of work & I like the idea of using an awl eather than cutting the eye shape, like you do in the trad version, vefore carving the inside piece

You're just right, next time I'll do it better (at least, let's hope).

Great pics, and what a good looking knife.

One thing that puzzles me though is that you were off work sick, and yet still feel well enough for a bit of carving!! :-)

Hope you feel better soon.

Stu

haha I'm lucky, being the boss of myself!
I had a very strong migraine yesterday morning and I felt sick. After 2 hours whitout any improvement, I decided that I could use anyway my time to do something instead to do nothing. This immediately give me a better feel :-) That's why I suggest a bit of manual work as a sort of treatment to all peoples that feel sick ;-)
