Ryanair asks passengers to vote on ‘standing’ flights.

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (9th July) launched an online poll to ask if passengers would ‘stand’ on short flights if it meant they could travel for FREE, or pay 50% less than seated passengers. Ryanair is gauging passenger demand for its ‘vertical seating’ which will allow passengers to travel – for free – in a secure upright position on short flights of approximately one hour.

If it was any other guy behind it I would say so - but no he in actual fact is very keen to have this cleared by the relevant authorities. Someone discovered that there is in fact no obligation to transport passengers in a sitting position whilst flying. Michael O'leary really does terrify me.

And at least you can have a running start if the plane comes down!!! Still not gonna make it like, but a running start anyway.

Seems reasonable to me; they treat their punters like cattle so why give them seats.:p

Seriously, if they let me on free and there was NO other airline going to the same destination, I would be up for it.

Some of the legroom you get these days in peasant class in unbearable anyway, I might actually prefer to stand on some of the shorter flights.

My wife paid more for the single train journey from Stansted to Watford (distance 29 miles), than her return trip to Hamburg via Ryanair!

Sounds about right Jim, and they want us to use public transport more these days ? I don't think so.

I hope he hasn't seen Flight of the Phoenix :D

Quite - I've never seen the point of a transport system that is less convenient, more expensive, frequently more polluting, usually filthy and late more often than it is on time.

Add that to journeys that take far longer.....

Hmmm how attractive!

And when the plane nosedives into the ocean are the standees just going to pray?

noooo, they'll be fighting the weakest looking sitter for their seatbelt!

am i the only person that thinks trains are practically luxurious compared to every other method i've ever used to get from one city to another?

i took the train from edinburgh to london return (i missed my return and got stuck in london for 3 months, which is more fun than you might think) and it only cost me £30

you have to book in advance or you'll get shafted.

now don't get me started on citylink ;)

i'll say it again: hooray for trains! :)

Aye. There is probably no rule against chopping passengers into 5 box sized segments and posting them to their destination but doesn't mean he should be allowed to do it !

You have to wonder how long it is before they decide landing fee's are too expensive so they will just fly at 10,000ft over your destination and chuck you out the door.

For a short flight at a reduced price I wouldn't mind standing for an hour, any more than that it might be a bit annoying but it depended on the price of the original ticket. I flew from Manchester to Newquay and it cost about £30, the actual ticket cost about £3, all the rest was tax or some such thing so the half price thing better count on the overall price not just the ticket. Or if it's free then it doesn't matter anyway.

Yeah, I'm actually a big fan of trains... But on-the-day ticket prices are absurd, and they're frequently overcrowded, especially that Edinburgh to London train.

I just voted that i'd stand, i've stood longer waiting for buses and trains and then continued to stand on them for an hour and a half or more, an hour on a plain is fine and if it's free or half price then they're offering better value than a lot of transport providers.

I just wonder if you have to stand holding your luggage though...if you're allowed any luggage...Umm, that's where they'll get you, luggage will be extortionate :D
