If you're happy with reconditioned machines, I can recommend the Dyson DC04 - it's a beast and certainly better than the DC40 it replaced
What do folks use for a workshop vac or would recommend?
Check it out, there are some conversion kits that enable cordless Dysons to be run on power tool batteries which is great if you have need of a battery to run a power tool - just rob it off the vacuum cleanerWe have a Henry in the house and a Hetty in the garage.
We inherited a brand new Dyson battery operated vac a couple of years ago, wife prefers it to the Henry as it more convenient and easier to use. However we both use the Henry more than the Dyson as the Dyson run time just isnt long enough, never was and is only getting shorter. At some point it will need a new battery which I suspect will cost more than a new Henry Hoover!
The Henrys will last practically for ever, spares are readily available and pretty easy to fit yourself if you have any simple DIY skills. The power board went on one of ours, a new board was about £12 and half hour to fit.
So I wouldnt recommend anything with a battery unless you put convenience before cost (and the environment) and have a very small or very clean house![]()

I use a 7 year old titan with power taken off from Screwfix, still going strong and sucks like a sucky thing! What do folks use for a workshop vac or would recommend?
Henry's are also designed to be fixed if they break. Our last Dyson caught fire. All our Dysons failed while relatively new.
Im a big fan of Henry - totally indestructible !

99% of everything else is designed to be skipped.
