Was in my local army surplus when this guy came in complaning about the non durability of his rucksack.

So the guy showed him a bergan, then as an alternative this huge US job.

About the side of a bergan, but with a daysack that straps on the back.

(I have no idea the official name of these things, I looked on Ebay and cant find any like it)

But I was thinking all that weight sticking out, what would it do to your spine?

The shopkeeper thought it better than the bergan...(the guy bought the GB kit, thus saving £50...)

Has anyone ever seen this type of bag and is it any good?

Sorry cant help chuckling to my self "molle moooole MOLLE Moooolem mollle MOOOOOOLE Big MOLe" :lmao:

Austin powers film sorry

How many bits are there to it?

does it come in other colours than that camo?

The shop guy waxed lyrical about it, it looked too many fancy bits to me. (and I will admit I have a weakness for fittings and pockets...)

You can mix and match. I have the main pack with the sleep carrier, the patrol pack which is the small detachable backpack, two sustainment pouches, and two medic pouches. The design is such that you can change it around a bit. I love it myself, though I have yet to go into the bush with it.

It could also have been the CFP-90 FPLIF (field pack, large, internal frame :lmao: ).

This was the predecessor of the current MOLLE system and consisted of a large pack on top of wich you can mount a day-pack. Consensus among users was that it is weak and the majority of soldiers kept their ALICE packs.

The Molle has a better design but some flaws as well. Main problem is the fragility of the external plastic frame and the endless fiddling with straps and fastex buckles. I own both sacks as collection items and I'm still favoring the desing and ruggedness of ALICE packs.

European designs, Berghaus, Lowe, Norrona and the like are, imho, superior although lacking the external frames. Swedisch Sacci produces some excellent military sacks with external frames.
