Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on various DIY and traditional craft projects over the years—ranging from woodworking and Slöjd to leatherwork, antler carving, and basic blacksmithing.

Instead of cluttering the forum with a new thread for every single item, I thought it would be best to open this central "project log." My plan is to use this thread to share pictures, talk about my process, and occasionally drop a YouTube video when I’ve documented the build.

I’m doing this purely for the love of the craft and to connect with like-minded people. I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any tips you might have, especially since I'm always keen to learn more.

Whistle sounds good.
I make flutes and whistles but I don’t care what they are made of so mostly plastic, some bone, lots are wooden, bamboo or aluminium.

Have you tried drilling right through and out of the end of your whistle - maybe 130mm? (After cutting off the tip.)

Then cover the end with your hand and slowly open the end hole. If you are lucky you will get a continuous octave.

I played Beethoven’s Ode to Joy at last years BcUK Summer Moot. The whistle was a 180mm piece of plastic 25mm conduit.
Anyone can do it. If you can whistle a tune you will find that you can play It intuitively.

You can make your spongy antler sing if you mix antler sawdust and a good waterproof glue ( Not superglue - it’s too quick) and coat the inside with a rotating brush/pad to get a smooth hard surface.

BUT
I’ve never tried it with antler.

This type of short, wide, open ended whistle is actually a form of ocarina rather than a whistle/pipe/flute.

Nothing too serious... a "Bushcraft breakfast kit" from wood, antler and horn. It was the first time I tried to form horn. It was not that easy, but I am happy with the results.

How funny I came across your videos the other week. Your puukko knives are fantastic! I was very intrigued though about those little pendants you were casting. I’d like to know more about them if possible??

What a nice coincidence! Do you mean these?

It all started with our wedding rings... my wife made engagement rings from wood she found in Denmark, then we took them as model for casting our wedding rings. Was more of a trial and error. Then I experimented with other forms and models.

Hej,
today I want to show one of the Puukkos I made recently. Its my new go to knife for using around house and our farm. Love to whittle with that, the Lauri blades are really awesome. I chose plumwood, reindeer antler, vulcanized fibre and brass for the handle. The Sheath is "puolituppi"-Style, half plum wood, half leather.

That was great, really enjoyed it. I love all those symbols, runic and Wiccan, they stir the primal spirit.

I sewn that from old eastern german tent sheet. It contains some bandaids and small stuff.

That was great, really enjoyed it. I love all those symbols, runic and Wiccan, they stir the primal spirit.
