A mate of mine asked me last night to try and find out if / what are the choices for a decent ''UK Legal'' carry tanto blade under £75.

Any advise

Cheers

When he and you say "UK Legal", do you mean "folding pocket knife with cutting edge of 3 inches or less" for which no "good reason" is required for carrying everyday, where ever?

Send him this link, and just have him choose one he likes the look of....he can choose any one he likes, so long as its a Real Steel G-Tanto G10:bigok: I haven't handled, but I did handle one of their Luna knives, and appart from the blade spring being a bit softer than I would have liked, it was a good knife, so I would expect this one to be fine too. Nothing wrong with the materials.

Because there really are not all that many non-locking tanto folders out there, and fewer still within that price limit, which eliminates all hand made knives.

There is an alternative. Get a Boker Plus Tech Tool, and grind the tip into a tanto style. Should be possible without shortening the blade.

Friction folder though

There is a Civvi you might like to look at, too

That's the thing with UK law. How people interpret it. Tanto blade, The total blade length is 3"...but an inch deep... THe lower edge is only 2.5" in the horizontal, but the edge leading to the tip is 1.5" due to the angle and depth (for example anyway)... So it fits within the commonly (but wrongly) acknowledged rule of a non locking sub 3" blade, but falls foul of the 3" cutting edge rule as the edge is actually 4".

What if we reverse that? Say a dagger blade that is 8" long... but only 1" each side of the tip is sharp? Is it correct to have it based on the cutting edge rule, or incorrect based on the 'blade' length? (assuming a none locking folding blade... there are no laws regarding the length of the handle)

If it's just about the look then the Boker Zenshin is an upside down or "reverse" tanto. It is eye catching but pretty uncomfortable in hand to be honest.
