It works really well, it's weathered a bit since that photo was taken so has a really nice look to it now

Just a garden trug i think, as you say a Sussex Trug is a very specific thing.

wasn't sure what a trug was, now i know! how are the slats and sides attached? is it glued or tacked into place with wee nails?

They are attached with waterproof wood glue and small pins.
