Can anyone ID this tree? I think it's a fruit tree... Maybe cherry or apple?

Some kind of Cherry for sure.

Looks like cherry to me too.
Does the bark smell vaguely of bitter almonds/cyanide ? cherries do.

I didn't notice an obvious almond smell but seem she consensus is cherry. Thanks folks.

I would go with cherry too. Regardless of what it is, there are two other questions, do you really want it growing in your lawn like that, and is the branch pictured the main growing shoot? It looks like the main leader should be going off screen to the right, but if this is the main leader you are likely to have quite an awkward tree to look after. A lot of pruning and staking, and it will always be crooked.
