Tool Logic SL3 opinions?

Hi - just thinking of getting the SL3 folding knife with flint attached as emergency only. Any opinions on this little tool? The cheapest I can find it is 25 quid total on ebay. I like the idea of having it around my neck on day-trips where I'm not specifically doing bushcraft, like walking or fishing, and I might need fire or blade, without carting around a sackful of stuff.

Oh yes, I'm going lightweight backpacking in June and it might be worth taking it then (if it gets through customs!)...

Any comments from users of this seemingly great little knife much appreciated.

Cheers,

Fred

Hello Fred,

Handled one once and didn't think to much of it. The blade snapped on the one we were trying, it was included in a survival kit put together by a buddy of mine. Probably pushing it passed what it was designed for, but I suppose thats what emergency situations are often about. As the old saying goes if it's all you've got then it better than nothing.

For less money you could get yourself an Opinel/Marjacq and a Fire Steel. Its simple enough to drill a lanyard hole in both types so it can be carried round your neck with the steel.

Regards

Mark

I carry one in my bouyancy aid pocket - had it for years, works like a dream, holds an edge, good kit.
How in the name of all that is bushcraft can anyone break one without giving it gross abuse?
A good knife if a little expensive.

I have one myself, i don't use it much but my father carries his all the time and has used it alot.
I got a few at trade price a while ago from a friend who had received too many in an order and sold them on here and BB.
Not great quality knives but not bad either, i wouldn't pay full price for them but at what i paid for them i thought they were ok.
All in all i think they are pretty handy wee knives and a great basis for a PSK - knife with a locking blade, whistle and firesteel all in one.

I used mine in the following thread, Warning dead animal content

Is this the one RM rubbished on Sunday morning TV a while ago?

I have a firesteel rod (from Bearclaw) threaded onto the wrist loop of my SAK, which is always with me on outdoor trips. Works a treat!:D
