Tom Brown Jr tracker

  • Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (29th July - 10th August) available until April 6th, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
The trouble with the tracker knife is that it carries out its tasks in a mediocre manner.

I had a go with a tracker out in Afghanistan, owned by an ex ranger and it wasn't a bad bit of kit and it kept an edge.

It would probably be good for fighting a muslim down in Sangin and would be a welcomed friend in a survival situation but for bushcraft your better off buying the tools that you need.

This knife will never replace a good axe and bowsaw, yeah they may weigh more but you would be glad of that axe if you were up in the great north.

Thats my ten bobs worth anyway.

Mind you, this weekend I met a guy who had one and reckonned it was a not bad tool, BUT, he works as a forrester so is well versed in using hand tools, and he went to a good deal of trouble to change the dreadfully obtuse edge bevels that TOPs insist on putting on their knives. We talked about it a bit more and agreed that there is nothing wrong with their steel, heat treat, or build quality. It is a question of the design and its execution and in the case of the TOPs version, much of the ridicule stems from their execution of the design. The Roger linger and David Beck versions were much more useable.

Hey now, don't 'diss the Tom Brown Tracker. Benicio del Toro certainly made it look interesting in "The Hunted" and it is a perfect example of a horrible product with a great media marketing campaign!

Nuff said,

I have had a Tops tom Brown tracker for about 2 years. it is a great
tool it has replaced my small ax on my horseback camping trips.
And I to changed the blade angle also the 1095 holds a good edge.
I still carry a Ax but it is a full size double bit for taking down trees.
For trees up to 4 in I will use the tracker.

PS I have been a fan of Randall knives for years and my number 1 goes every where with me. But a while back I was shown a Tops knife and
they are great knives at about 1/3 the price of Randall's

each to their own but the saw teeth would probably blunt or break when useing a batton. also whats the idea with the kink in the blade:confused: surely that would get in the way

The Predator received a Fair grade which is better than many and not as good as others. However the Predator has been phased out for the Raven. The Raven is 1080 carbon steel upgrade. The issue with the tip was also fixed.

Yes he is odd haha. I always wondered why he hides himself haha. He has stirred the knife world by some of his tests on highly praised knives. Especially his Chris Reeves tests.

I think he could be much more credible if he would standardize his tests more scientifically. Swinging a mallet at a knife in a vise is not very accurate haha.
