tiny shrimp lives in water with rotting leaves

i was walking today and saw an old trough which must have been there years filled with 2 feet of water right to the top with leaves also.

there were thousands of tiny white fat shimp like creatures, so small they were hard to see the shape of them even with a magnifying glass.

anyone know what they could be?

It does sound like daphnia...

Definitely Daphnia or 'Water Fleas' as some call them.
