Hi all,
My brother has found some BIG bits of timber in the back of a shed that he's moving out of, I'm not sure if they 'wood' be of any use, if they are a hard wood then I'd have lots of things to do with it but not if they were pine or something similarly soft.
Pic are to follow, I'd be grateful of any help. Thanks in advance.

No worries, sections that size (looks like 9"x9" and 12"x12" ) are often used for timber framing but I have used boards for doors and windows as it is fairly stable and easy to work while being quite suitable for outdoor use.

Watch out for splinters, if I recall correctly they can go quite septic from douglas fir.

Cheers, Paul

The big ones are easy to pull out but hurt, the smaller ones are best left to ferment then they, when squeezed, ride out like a surfboard on a wave ;)

I dislike hawthorn, can take most of the thorn out but there's always a little bit that gets stuck and is irritating or gets infected.
