Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, this is my first post so forgive me if I've put it in the wrong place :)

I have just bought a couple of Tilley lamps and a Primus Stove at auction & one of the Tilleys is in need of renovation.

After a bit of research, I think I have a Tilley TL10, oil reservoir at bottom, reeded candlestick above, vaporiser with pre-igniter above that, then mantle then brass cap. No glass atm.

I think it needs a complete overhaul, the pump plunger won't move, I doubt the vapouriser works (whatever that adjuster is at the base of it is stuck - is that for fuel adjustment or jet cleaner?) and obviously new mantle & glass as well as washers etc

I have had a look on the internet and am struggling to find the part numbers for the lamp - for example, are vaporisers standard to all lamps only differing in length, or do I have to buy a vaporiser for a TL10? Same with mantles and other bits.

Can anyone give me some pointers on where to start and what I need to do (bearing in mind I'm a complete novice but everyone has to start somewhere:) ) ? I know there will be shops specialising in lamp repair but I would really like to have a go myself in the first instance.

Many thanks

Welcome to Bushcraftuk forum, Lynn. There are, without doubt, plenty of people here who can advise you re. the overhaul of your lamp. However, I would strongly recommend that you pose your questions on the Classic Pressure Lamps forum. Pressure lamps is pretty much all they do and they will certainly give you all the answers you need.

Many thanks for the warm welcome :) and the very helpful pointers. I'll have a proper look at those sites before I make any attempt at renovation, think it will make a beautiful lamp when it's sorted and I really don't want to mess it up. If anyone has any tips or warnings of common mistakes to make I would be most grateful to hear them :)
Thanks
Lynn

Hello everyone
I have been lurking on the edges of this forum (and very much enjoying it) primarily because i too have become a little obsessed with a Tilley lamp - and getting it going too! The other forums suggested give great advice, as does Lyn - the lady who answers the phone at Tilley...she is more than happy to advise over the phone and currently has my Tilley lamp vaporisation tube for pressure testing. Just for aesthetics you can clean the metal cage beautifully with aluminium foil and lemon juice or citric acid and fine wire wool (citric acid can be bought in home brew shops...I struggled to buy citric acid initially - I am a textile designer and its used to prepare fabric ready for dyeing but the man in the home brew shop says apparently its what the heroin addicts use for mixing their "fix"???) anyway if you cant get any lemon juice will suffice! I am not an under canvas camper as all you bushcraft guys but a gurl with a van and so when i park up I really enjoy havin the light from a Tilley.

Have fun everyone...weekend is coming so I am off to the New Forest!
Henny :)
