Tick time!

Well, just spent the last 20 minutes terrorising one of my dogs because I could see a tick on her lower lip. She hates any kind of procedure and growled and squealed.

Only to discover it was a sesame seed. I’m currently being glared at.

As a kid i played outside in the woods and fields near my house almost everyday, walked the dog everyday in college and since then have been working outdoors everyday for years and go camping a lot in my free time on top of that and I have to say I don't think I have ever seen a tick on me or been bitten by one. East midlands has a lack of ticks? Haha

I’m camping in sheep country and pulled one out of my thigh this morning.

Buy a pair of serious tick-removal forceps. You owe as much to yourself, your tribe and your pets.
Get them used to being rolled over and inspected. Everywhere.
a) The beak is barbed. You must get below that and not break it off.
b) Never squeeze a tick. They vomit up a co.cktail of arbo viruses that cause all sorts of illness.
c) Don't pound them with a rock. The spray of gut juices is every bit as bad.
d) Dermacentor sp can swim in whiskey for 8+ hours so toss the tick in the fire instead.

I recall an Old Wifes Tale that you can put a blob of butter on them and it will kill them ( suffocate)?

There's a risk that they puke up viruses as they suffocate.
Mechanical removal is the best.
Same myth here = baby oil or suntan lotion.

I always use the O'Tom tick twister, fits in my wallet and always work. You basically unscrew the tick form you or your pet.
Must say that this year with the cold snap and now all the heat, tick populations at least in my area of Hamshire seem to be low.

I use a pair of tweezers to get them off then something like surgical spirit etc.. to give the bite a clean.
