One of my University lecturers was an expert in Viking tales....they had a rather dry and droll sense of humour.
He told the tale of the man who was awoken in the middle of the night, opened his door to find out what was going on, and was stabbed through with a spear.
His dying comment was apparently, "Ah, I see broad bladed spears are back in favour".
