I have my eye upon a place in Scotland.

But I have no money.

Yet.

When I sell my house I will have plenty.

Is there any way around this conundrum?

Bridging loans are expensive but with luck, very short lived. Ask your bank.

I get the impression that the Scottish property isn’t about to fly off the market and your English property will!

Is the seller offering a formal survey?

To add to what BR says - make sure you do everything through a solicitor or you may find yourself committed before you're ready.

No-one (well very few) have the cash to buy a house until they sell the one they are in. Have you put yours on the market yet?

I take it you have digs in Scotland and spend most of your time there?

If so, and assuming you are definitely going to sell your place get it on the market ASAP.

Once your house is sold you become a cash buyer, which is a very nice position to be in.

Most people are in a chain as they need the raised funds and a place to live during the move period.

A Cheshire farmer friend of my father in law went to look at a farm in Scotland. He was mulling moving there. I don’t know exactly what words he used but he told us that he had just said that he liked the Scottish farm.

The letter confirming his offer arrived at his farm before he got back there at the weekend.

You will need* a solicitor qualified in Scots Law and authorised to practise in it, Scots Law is different to the law of England & Wales and not many individual lawyers are qualified in both although bigger practises with multiple staff may cover both jurisdictions.

(Most solicitors qualified in Scots Law are based in Scotland, for obvious reasons ;)).

*assuming you want to be able to rely on the legal advice and have comebacks it goes wrong
