wow. this is quite staggering. a very enlightening read. Thank you. Somethings just dont get siad until your are forced to. I bet she would have eaten her own words if you presented this argument to her.

Yeah never a truer word written. Being oldish myself,i remember all of what was done back then.
But alas sadly no one ever questions our headlong rush into the future,if anyone does question anything they're told to stop being a miserable git,and told you can't dwell in the past, theres no winning i tell ya :dunno:.

Cheers Stuart.

It is a bewildering world, just because we can create magical technological devices doesn't mean we should. Technical knowledge without commensurate wisdom spells disaster for us all...

I thought it was a brilliant insight into what life used to be like when I was a lad 30-40 years ago.
I used to cycle everywhere, no matter how far (once cycled the 40-odd miles to the TVR factory in Blackpool just to stare in the window, then cycled home again!).
We stayed out all day playing in the woods (I never left home without a box of matches cos I always knew I was going to need to dry off before I went for my tea!).
My old man made me a wooden kart out of scraps of wood for racing around a chalk-line track in the street.
I fell out of more chestnut trees than I care to remember (perhaps there's a link there...)
And I slept like a baby at the end of every summer day without a single thought for what might be on the TV.
A joint of beef used to last three or four meals, starting out as a roast on Sunday and ending up as a meat + potato pie with a lovely thick crust by Wednesday.
I made French arrows from bits of old dowelling and chucked them the length of the footie pitch in the park (using my pal at the other end as a general 'target'... eek!).
I swam in the canal and caught all manner of unpleasant tummy bugs, and earned silver sixpences for opening the lock gates for passing pleasure barges.
We used to re-enact WW2 battles on the old airfield, using the old concrete bunkers as HQ and sticks and sods for guns and grenades.
Looking back on it all now through misted-over, rose-tinted spectacles, it actually was as good as I remember.
And I barely spent a penny on any of it.
Happy days.

this chaff has been going round of FB for a good few months now, did it contain the construction of roofing and insulation using asbestos too?

Indeed or those lovely old gas-guzzling cars :D

The good old days. Why stop 30 or 40 years ago though? I'm sure the Victorians could have taught us a thing or two about green-living ;)
