Project Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit the Earth, died today, age 88.

Another with the 'Right Stuff' passed away

R.I.P. chap.

What they achieved with the relatively crude equipment of the time was remarkable.

I always find it a loss when people pass on, I wonder at all the things that they knew, learned, observed, felt etc due to their experiences.

I heard a comment that I remember at times like this.
"When an old person dies, it's like a library burnt down."

RIP. And now there's only one left of the original Mercury 7.

RIP. Still at 88 he's had a good run and being the second American into space he's done things none of us will.

As The Right Stuff has been mentioned, that's one of my favourite films.
